Re: noodle alcove in chinatown?
Mon, November 20, 2006 - 7:53 PMi believe it closed down. last time i was in chinatown (this morning), i noticed that it is now a different restaurant.
for good noodle soup, check out pho pasteur in chinatown (good beef pho) and sapporo ramen (the miso moyashi is the bomb!) in the porter exchange mall down by porter sq.
for traditional chinese noodle soup, check out asian garden in chinatown (on harrison)...they have great shrimp wonton noodle soup (if you're bold, the beef tendon noodle soup is pretty good, too).
oh, and the nabeyaki udon at ginza (also chinatown) is pretty tasty. -

Re: noodle alcove in chinatown?
Tue, November 21, 2006 - 5:37 AMthanks, jasmine - i'll have to undertake a fact finding mission to chinatown sometime soon and just spend a day eating yummy noodles.
hey - is the pho pasteur in chinatown better than the one in harvard square? the harvard square one is a good cheap lunch in a pinch but doesnt really impress me.
what i'm really looking for is good chinese homeade noodles and dumplings, like i love to get at wonton garden in NYC's chinatown. so asian garden is first on my list. but i love japanese nooodles (heck, lets embrace diversity, i love all noodles) too and will definitely check the others out. -

Re: noodle alcove in chinatown?
Mon, January 8, 2007 - 2:56 PMoh my god, you're taking me back! i LOVE wonton garden. i grew up on that stuff! if you like dumplings, a good place is Wang's in Somerville. they make GREAT northern chinese style dumplings (i'm not really a big fan of peking ravioli). i haven't really found a place like wonton garden up here in boston :( that just means i'll have to keep looking! if you hit up asian garden during the daytime, the owner and chef, ka wah fong, is around and he is VERY accomodating and could probably make you what you're looking for. when my family came up here to visit me a while back, he prepared a bunch of special dishes for us that weren't on the menu.
the pho pasteur in chinatown is the original one. the one in harvard sq is no longer associated with the one in chinatown and changed it's name to Le's (something like that). the pho is pretty good there. i don't know if one is necessarily better than the other, but you're more likely to see more asian families eating at the original one in chinatown. i used to live in chinatown and am more familiar with the menu there. i've only been to the one in harvard sq twice. -

Re: noodle alcove in chinatown?
Mon, January 8, 2007 - 3:35 PMsince i last posted here, ive been to both pho pasteur and pho hoa in chinatown, i liked both a lot more than le's in cambridge. think i might prefer pho hoa to pasteur but the jury is still out. both are good, so deciding will be fun.
ive also been to wangs, maybe it was an off night or i had my hopes to high, but it was just ok. much better than your average chinese hole in the wall, but not as incredible as i hoped. and definitely not wonton garden.
asian garden i will have to check out soon.

Re: noodle alcove in chinatown?
Tue, January 9, 2007 - 10:11 AMFresh, and I mean very fresh, noodles are a staple of dim sum.
Now, what I would like to know, is if anyone knows of either a vegetarian dim sum, or at least a dim sum place that has a lot of vegetarian fare? -

Re: noodle alcove in chinatown?
Wed, January 31, 2007 - 12:22 PMthe ladyfriend and i hit up the awesomeness that is the porter exchange food court last night, for some noodles from sapporo ramen. i had the clear broth with pork, she had miso broth with veggies and tofu. both kicked ass and took names and set us back only $16.50 before tip. it aint much for ambience, but its good eats.
